Say Some Thing: What Stymie Is & Why It Matters

Hey there!  We’re happy you’re here! 👋
What-Stymie-Is-&-Why-It-Matters
When our Founder Rach heard that more than 100,000 kids stayed away from school on some days because they didn’t feel safe, she wanted to help.
School should be a place where everyone feels respected and supported. But sometimes, things happen that make it hard to feel safe and seen – whether it’s bullying, family issues, or someone struggling with their mental health. That’s where Stymie may help. We can help you look out for yourself and others in your school community; we have created a safe place for you to say something.
Rach wanted to remind you that if speaking to a responsible grown-up feels okay, please do that. You only need to use Stymie if that’s not the case.

What is Stymie?

Stymie is an anonymous online tool that lets you report worrying things that may be happening to you or someone else, without revealing who you are.
You can use it to report:
Bullying (physical, verbal, social, or online)
Self-harm or suicidal thoughts
Fights (before they happen)
Family violence
Illegal activity (vaping, drugs, alcohol, vandalism)
Harassment or threats
Anything else that feels unsafe or wrong
Your report goes straight to your school’s wellbeing team, who can step in and help the person who needs it.
These numbers aren’t just statistics – they are about real people who needed support. Your Stymie Notification could be the first step in getting someone an important conversation and the help they need.

Why It’s Important

Here are some stats that show why speaking up matters:

Bullying: Almost 1 in 3 kids are bullied; both in person and online.

Family Violence: Is a major issue that many young people are dealing with right now.

Self-Harm: In 2022–23, young people aged 15 – 19 had the highest rates of hospitalisation for deliberately trying to hurt themselves.

Mental Health Challenges: Between 2020 and 2022, approximately 40% of 16–24 year olds had mental health challenges that affected their everyday lives.
